When I fold laundry, I like to fold as many things into drawers as possible. This saves time and prevents piles from tumbling and having to be refolded. While placing items in a drawer the other day, my gaze fell to this beautifully wrapped bar of soap.
My senses were immediately pleased–it smells dreamy and the wrapping is beautiful. It’s a small, insignificant item that only I see, but it’s truly pleasant…it’s lovely!
I do believe it’s important to stay informed of the news. Ignorance is not bliss, but knowledge is not always blissful either. I don’t know about you, but sometimes I get overwhelmed with negativity and ugliness. Too often I lay awake at night as troublesome and worrisome thoughts push sleep far from me.
Within a long list of “things”, God is clear in Philippians 4:8 that “…whatsoever things are lovely, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” We are told to think on lovely things! Sometimes “thinking” needs help, and a cue from Lamentations 3:51 tells us what to do. “Mine eye affecteth mine heart…”
Do you have a Pinterest account? Instagram? I do and try to follow and search for things that are pleasant to me. There is nothing more satisfying to me than having vintage thimbles and buttons and Victorian dresses appear in my Pinterest suggestions. I look forward to seeing a bunny named Sugar, sea glass, and pictures of teacups in my Instagram feed. I find it pleasant to flick through these accounts especially after having a trying day or right before bed, then I “think on these things.” How about you? Do you try to surround yourself with pleasant things? What efforts do you make to think on whatsoever is lovely?
